The Burnes Center is building the emerging field of public problem solving to advance chance and accelerate impact.

Over the next five years, we will build a preeminent interdisciplinary faculty, multi-method research agenda, and an advanced degree program focused on solving real-world problems.

  • Action-Research Partners

    WIth institutional partners like The GovLab, applying our public problem solving approach to specific challenges to test, improve, and scale real-world solutions across government institutions and community individuals.

  • Global Impact @ NU

    The Burnes Center builds on Northeastern’s strong commitment to real-world impact across its colleges and departments. We collaborate with the over 80 research organizations at Northeastern focused on social impact.

  • Multidisciplinary Faculty

    Creating world-class multidisciplinary faculty who build and lead the field of public problem study as well as apply their research to advance social change and impact in domain-specific areas.

  • Solving Public Problems, Ph.D.

    Working with the Provost’s Office to develop a new interdisciplinary Ph.D program focused on Burnes Center multi-method SPP approach.
