Generative AI Engineer

About

Dhruv Kamalesh Kumar is a Generative AI Engineer at the Burnes Center for Social Change, where he leads the technical development of AI solutions designed to foster public innovation and social equity. He holds a Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence from Northeastern University and a degree in Computer Science from Visvesvaraya Technological University.

As the Lead AI Engineer for AIEP, Dhruv architected an open-source platform that simplifies Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for families. He engineered the system’s robust backend, utilizing vision-based OCR to parse complex documents and multi-agent pipelines to translate legal terminology into accessible, family-friendly insights. To protect sensitive student data, he designed a privacy-first architecture that ensures the platform is both secure and scalable.

Dhruv’s work focuses on making advanced technology usable for non-experts. During his co-op at the Burnes Center, he played a key role in developing the Generative AI Sandbox for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, a secure environment that enabled over 44,000 state employees to safely explore AI to enhance public services.

With a proven track record of deploying high-impact tools, Dhruv was recently recognized as a global winner in the AWS x Riot Games Hackathon for his work on strategic AI analytics. Outside of his engineering work, he is a dedicated food lover who enjoys experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen.
